Two paintings of burned forests and new growth. I invite you to use these images as objects of contemplation for this week of Ash Wednesday and the beginning of the Lenten Season.
This post offers visual resources for the Revised Common Lectionary and the Narrative Lectionary for Ash Wednesday, February 14, 2024 and Lent 1, February 18, 2024. It includes introductions to both Ash Wednesday and Lent in addition to the texts for the week.
In this third week of Lent we explore visual resources for both the Revised Common Lectionary and the Narrative Lectionary for March 12, 2023. The RCL takes us to Exodus 17 with Moses bringing water from the rock, Romans 5 where the Spirit pours out grace, and John 4 where Jesus offers living water to the woman at the Well. The Narrative Lectionary takes us to a confrontation about Jesus’ authority and his parable of the wedding banquet.
Lent begins this week with Ash Wedneday and the first Sunday of Lent. The RCL takes us to Matthew 6 for Ash Wednesday and Matthew 4 for Sunday. The Narrative Lectionary continues walking through the story of Matthew and lands in the Community Discourse of Matthew 18. This post has visual resources for all these passages.
