Saul was headed to Damascus to arrest the followers of Jesus. He encounters the risen Christ and is forever changed. Saul does not experience true healing until he receives the touch of Ananias along with his forgiveness and acceptance. Saul, who would later be called Paul, understood the grace of Jesus Christ in a palpable way.

1 Corinthians is a letter written by the apostle Paul to a contentious people. He spends much of the letter correcting their negative and destructive behavior. Yet, here in 1 Corinthians 13, nestled in the middle of the constant correctives to chaotic Corinthians comes a beautiful gem that radiates the deep truth of God’s Kingdom. Paul writes to the church in Rome, who is divided between the Jews and the Gentiles, and says,
“I am not ashamed of the Gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation, first to the Jews, and also to the Gentiles.”
What does he mean by the “power of salvation.”
