The NL pairs Proverbs 1:1-7; 3:1-8 with Matthew 13–the parables of Jesus–for the readings on July 23. This makes sense, since Jesus’ parables function in a very similar way to the Hebrew proverbs.
This post offers visual resources for the Revised Common Lectionary and the Narrative Lectionary for July 23, 2023. We have a rare convergence of the Gospel texts this week as both lectionaries take us to Matthew 13. The RCL is continuing a mini-series in the Parables of Jesus and the NL is introducing the Proverbs this week and Jesus’ parables make a nice Gospel reading complement.
We had fun on Thursday during the livestream session. I was able to do the rough pencils for page 26 of A Cartoonist’s Guide to Acts. This is a quick recap of the drawing session. Join me each Thursday at 2:00pm CST as I work my way through this project.
This post offers visual resources for the Revised Common Lectionary for July 16, 2023. The RCL take us to the birth of Esau and Jacob in Genesis 25. We continue in Romans to life in the Spirit. Finally, we come to Jesus’ parable of the sower in Matthew 13. The NL continues a three-part series on 2 Peter.
In this post I review the story of Peter in Acts 10-12 as I pencil these pages for A Cartoonist’s Guide to Acts.
This post offers visual resources for the Revised Common Lectionary for July 9, 2023. The RCL take us to the story of Isaac and Rebekah in Genesis 24 and meditates on love and marriage as a place of refuge in the Psalms. The prophets and the Gospel reading depict the Messiah as the one who has conquered the enemy through peace, not violence and offers a place of refuge for all who are weary. The NL continues a three-part series on 2 Peter.
Join me on Thursdays at 2:00pm CST for a livestream art session on YouTube. I’m drawing through the book of Acts in real time.
Does the American Dream of independence reflect Jesus’ dream of the Kingdom of God? In this post we reflect on dependence, independence, and interdependence.
Join me as I close out one sketchbook and start a new one. I always have a @moleskine sketchbook in my bag for journaling and impromptu sketching. I will share some of my favorite drawings from the last sketchbook and demonstrate how easy it is to transfer the Quiver pen holder from the old to the new.
