This post offers visual resources for the Revised Common Lectionary and the Narrative Lectionary for August 13, 2023. The RCL takes us to three powerful stories this week. First, we look at Joseph in Genesis for two weeks. Second, we read the story of Elijah and God on Mt. Horeb. Finally, we witness Jesus walking on water in Matthew 14:22-33. The NL concludes a series on Wisdom literature by looking at The Song of Solomon. It pairs this with Mark 8:35-37 for the Gospel reading.
Join me in this livestream art session where I paint the scene in Acts 3 when Peter and John encounter a beggar and restore him to the community. This is a demonstration of painting in Photoshop as part of my process in creating A Cartoonist’s Guide to Acts.
This is a course I created for Faith+Lead Academy. It is built on my ongoing development of the Overflow Principle and how to grow in the love of God. If you sign up for my newsletter, I will be happy to give you the code for 25% off this course.
This post offers visual resources for the Revised Common Lectionary and the Narrative Lectionary for August 6, 2023. The RCL takes us to the story of Jesus feeding the 5,000 in Matthew 14:13-21. The NL continues a series on Wisdom literature by looking at Ecclesiastes. It pairs this with Luke 13:1-3 for the Gospel reading.
This post offers visual resources for the Revised Common Lectionary and the Narrative Lectionary for July 30, 2023. The RCL is continuing a mini-series in the Parables of Jesus, along with a look at the wisdom of Solomon in 1 Kings and the continuation of Genesis and Romans. The NL is continuing Proverbs this week and pulls from John 8 for the Gospel reading.
Watch the live art session where I work on the pencils for page 29 in A Cartoonist’s Guide to Acts. Paul is in Athens in Acts 17.
The NL pairs Proverbs 1:1-7; 3:1-8 with Matthew 13–the parables of Jesus–for the readings on July 23. This makes sense, since Jesus’ parables function in a very similar way to the Hebrew proverbs.
This post offers visual resources for the Revised Common Lectionary and the Narrative Lectionary for July 23, 2023. We have a rare convergence of the Gospel texts this week as both lectionaries take us to Matthew 13. The RCL is continuing a mini-series in the Parables of Jesus and the NL is introducing the Proverbs this week and Jesus’ parables make a nice Gospel reading complement.
