Wars. Wildfires. Shootings. Political divides. Hatred. Is it the end of the world? Where is God in all the mess? Jesus gives us some clues in Mark 13 and the coming of the end of the Temple in Jerusalem.

The NL takes us to Jesus’ prediction of the destruction of the Temple and his warning to “keep awake.”

The RCL is all about the bronze serpent in the wilderness. Jesus tells Nicodemus that the Son of Man will be lifted up just like Moses lifted up the serpent in Numbers. The NL continues Mark’s version of Jesus in the Temple in the days before his execution. He is asked, “What is the greatest commandment?”

Psalm 19 says the heavens declare the glory of God and Torah. Jesus cleansed the Temple in John 2 and promised to rebuild it in three days. Paul says that the word of the cross is foolishness to the wisdom of the world. The NL takes us to Jesus’ parable of the rented vineyard.
