A big challenge for the Narrative Lectionary preacher this week is to catch the congregation up on the story that happened from the scene with Moses at the burning bush last week to the moment when Moses preaches the Shema in Deuteronomy 6 to the second generation this week.

I have done this a few times in my years of preaching through the Narrative Lectionary. The images below are designed to quickly summarize the story to create context for the important text of Deuteronomy 6:4-9. The 34 images in the slide show below tell the story of Exodus 7-32. They were originally designed to set up the context for the scene of the golden calf, but they obviously would serve for this week as well. You probably wouldn’t use all of them, but some might help.

Here are a couple images to summarize the story of Numbers. The first one has some of my own interpretation in it (from a long time ago), but it does include the story of the spies. The second image is much simpler and has the same format as the previous.
