I LOVE my new job at Luther Seminary where I serve as the Associate Professor of Spiritual Formation and Discipleship. I started on August 1 and have been getting to meet my new colleagues and ease into the new semester.
One of the many things I love about this job is that it has clearer boundaries between work and personal life than I experienced as a local church pastor. I now have the freedom to pursue freelance art and speaking gigs in a way that I have not felt in a long time.
I had my own art studio–Spot Studios–from 2002-2010. Five of those years I was bi-vocational between freelance art and leading a network of house churches. It was a strange feeling to shut down the freelancer part of me when I entered the PhD program at Luther and became a rostered ELCA pastor in 2011.
Now I have the freedom again.
So…if you know anyone who is looking for some illustration work, or wants to commission some oil paintings, or a church that is looking for a guest speaker to the fill the pulpit on a Sunday morning, please pass on my site.
