We had the privilege of attending Symphonic Rock 4 on Friday night at Anoka High School. Special thanks to our friends, Stephen and Johnna Hirt, for hosting this evening out. I am well aware of the musical excellence in the Anoka Hennepin school district, since my kids have been under the leadership of Rick Geiger, and the music/theater staff, at Coon Rapids for many years. In fact, the Anoka Hennepin school district recently won the Best Communities for Music Education Award again this year.
The concert on Friday night confirmed my respect for the music in this area. Wow! Mike Halstenson and the Staff Infection Band pulled together and amazing night of Classic Rock. Halstenson scored over 1500 pages of music that allowed the Concert Choir, Band, and Orchestra to play with the Staff Infection Band. This great music combined with an impressive light show and good natured humor made for an incredibly fun night.
The kicker for the whole thing was the fact that all the proceeds go to the high school’s Caring and Sharing Fund. This fund was created to meet the needs of students who find themselves in real financial crisis. Halstenson joked about the concert being like a church service. Well, speaking as a pastor, it really was. Thanks to Mike and the bands. It totally Rocked!
