November 1 is All Saints’ Day in the Liturgical Calendar. Many observe this day on Sunday the 3rd. It is a day to remember those who have died, to grieve their loss, and to lean into the hope of the resurrection and the promises of God.

The Gospel reading is John 11:32-44. Jesus grieves the death of Lazarus and offers a glimpse of resurrection hope.

All Saints’ Day falls on the weekend before one of the most contentious elections in U.S. history. My prayer for you this weekend is that you might be able to lead your people into the depth of our true hope. We don’t trust in government, we trust in the promises of God, who meets us in our weakness and pain and grounds us in love, grace, justice, and mercy.

peace to you and yours this week.
