This post offers visual resources for the Revised Common Lectionary and the Narrative Lectionary for February 19, 2023. Both lectionaries converge on the story of Jesus’ Transfiguration in Matthew this week. The Revised Common Lectionary focuses on Matthew 17:1-9 and the Narrative Lectionary zooms out to Matthew 16:24-17:8.
Jesus takes Peter, James, and John to the top of a mountain and is transfigured before them. This story is told in the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, and Luke. Each have their own perspective on it.
A Cartoonist’s Guide to the Transfiguation combines all three of these stories into one convenient PowerPoint and Image Pack. Feel free to mix and match these images to create the most impactful and creative way to enhance your own teaching of this story.
Revised Common Lectionary
The Revised Common Lectionary focuses on Matthew 17:1-9.
Here are quick links to all the texts for this week:
2 Peter 1:16-21
The Hebrew Scripture reading comes from Exodus 24:12-18. This PowerPoint has some rich images for that passage.
Feel free to use any or all of these slides and images in your own preaching and teaching.
Narrative Lectionary | Matthew 16:24-7:8
We jump a few chapters in Matthew this week. We move from the Parables Discourse in chapter 13 to the Transfiguration in Chapter 17. Check out the parts we skipped on page 10, and page 11, of A Cartoonist’s Guide to Matthew.
