This marks the end of a four-year journey. In the summer of 2018 we were planning our preaching series for the upcoming season. We decided to follow the Narrative Lectionary through another cycle. Each year the Narrative Lectionary leads the congregation through the narrative arc of the Old Testament in the Fall, then works through one of the Gospels from Christmas to Easter. It is a four-year cycle, one Gospel per year: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John.

I decided to illustrate the entire Gospel of Matthew as a graphic novel and turn each page into a PowerPoint presentation and set of .jpg images so that preachers and teachers could use my illustrations to walk their people through the story.

I studied the Gospel in the Fall and mapped out the book. Then I illustrated all the pages that we were preaching through the season, always trying to stay at least two weeks ahead of the preaching dates. The summer was spent illustrating any pages that I skipped and compiling the book for print.

The summer of 2019 saw the printing of Matthew. 2020, Mark. 2021, Luke. And now, the summer of 2022 brings us to the fourth and final Gospel: John!
