The Narrative Lectionary brings us to John 20:19-31 this week. Three things happen in this story:
- Jesus appears to the disciples and breathes the Holy Spirit onto them.
- Jesus appears to Thomas, who was absent at the first appearance and demanded to see the marks in Jesus’ body.
- The author offers a purpose statement for the entire Gospel writing: “These signs have been written so that you might TRUST that Jesus is the Messiah, and by TRUSTING you might have LIFE in his name.”
