Here is a thought that popped into my mind yesterday regarding justice. This is an admitedly simplistic and flawed piece of logic, but thought provoking none-the-less.
if the (simplistic) definition of justice is “to give what is deserved” then the action of justice will depend greatly upon one’s understanding of the nature of humanity. If humans are totally depraved and incapable of good, then justice is that we are all condemned to punishment. If humanity is created in the image and likeness of God, for the purpose of fellowship with God, each other, and all creation, then we deserve the opportunity to live that way.
Micah 6:8 says,
He has told you, O mortal, what is good;
and what does the Lord require of you
but to do justice, and to love kindness,
and to walk humbly with your God?
