This weekend I will be preaching Exodus 19:3-7; 20:1-17 from the Narrative Lectionary. This is the first giving of the Ten Commandments, but I don’t really want to focus as much on the Ten Commandments (20:1-17) as I do on the framing of the commandments in 19:3-7. God gave the commandments to the people so that they could be a holy priesthood; so that they could show the world what loving God and loving the neighbor looks life in real life. That is still our calling today.
