This post offers visual resources for the week of November 13, 2022 in the Revised Common Lectionary and the Narrative Lectionary. Jesus warns the people of Israel about the coming destruction of the Temple in Luke 21:5-19 (RCL) and Micah warns the people of Judah to prepare for their coming judgment (NL).
Revised Common Lectionary | Luke 21:5-19 | Jesus Warns of Coming Destruction
This week’s text happens in the same context as last week, thus it uses the same image. Jesus hears people bragging about how amazing the Temple is after Herod had so lavishly adorned it. Jesus warns that the Temple will be destroyed and the people will suffer greatly. He then comforts his disciples and assures them that God will be with them in and through the suffering, empowering them to stand strong and bear witness to the true Kingdom of God.

Narrative Lectionary | Micah 1:3-5, 5:2-5a, 6:6-8 | Judah is Warned of Its Coming Judgment
The Narrative Lectionary jumps from Elisha in 2 Kings to the preaching of the prophet Micah. CLICK HERE to get an overview of the Minor Prophets and place Micah in context.
Micah is preaching to the leadership of the Southern Kingdom of Judah during the time that the Empire of Assyria is invading and destroying the Northern Kingdom of Israel. Judah is spared because of King Hezekiah’s faithfulness to God, thus Judah is tempted to think that they are immune to destruction. Micah warns them to not become complacent and that their day in court is coming.
I only have one image for the book of Micah. It is a word art I created many years ago for one of my favorite verse, Micah 6:8. Feel free to right click and “Save As” to use this in your own teaching and preaching.
