The Characters of Wisdom

The Bible Project has inspired me through their videos and podcasts about the Wisdom Books. They talk about the books of Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and Job as if they were people, or characters in a play. I am going to use that metaphor in my sermon this weekend. I took the liberty to draw my version of these characters this afternoon. These are the PowerPoint slides for the sermon.

Thanks, Bible Project!

These are the three characters that depict the three books of Hebrew Wisdom: Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and Job.

Proverbs is a young, smart, idealistic teacher who tells us that God weaves the universe together through wisdom. There is a pattern of justice.

Ecclesiastes is the middle-aged cynic. He tried Proverbs' way, and it doesn't always work.

Job is a wise, weathered old man who has learned, through life's ups and downs, that God's wisdom is deeper than we can possibly understand. We simply trust in the ultimate goodness and faithfulness of God.
