Thursday, January 8: Exodus 12:29-32
Pharoah’s stubbornness and unwillingness to listen to the Word of God led to the most tragic event a parent can imagine. His firstborn son was dead. There is nothing pretty or happy about this story.
Life is messy. Our sin sick world is full of these kinds of stories every day. When our selfishness and need for power controls our decisions, people suffer.
The good news is that God brings new life. This tragic event led to the release of the slaves. Moses led them out of Egypt and to a new life with God.
Our real lesson for the week is from Matthew 2:13-23. Jesus is the new Moses. We’ll see how Jesus turns death into life as we study the Gospel of Matthew over the next few weeks.
