I have the unique privilege of combining my two worlds this semester. I’m using our youth group experience as a case study. Here are my initial thoughts. I’m open to conversation about this.
Initial Thoughts about My Case Study
My context is a suburban ELCA congregation. I work with both adult and youth ministry in the area of spiritual formation. This year I am attempting to lead my high school students, along with their adult mentors, through a project called How Do I Fit? I am utilizing digital media—website, video, facebook, youtube—to create a virtual space for the participants to interact. It is proving to be a challenge in that high school students are media-saturated and overly busy with the demands of school, activities, and social positioning. Spiritual Formation and community is not necessarily a felt need for them, so how do we engage them? I think there is great fodder for academic exploration here.
