What do October and German have in common? It is not what you are probably thinking, at least for me. It does involve consuming large quantities of something which will most likely make my head spin. No, I’m not talking about long tables littered with beer and brats. I’m talking about learning German. I failed my German exam twice. I’m convinced that the reason I failed is because I have not taken the time to simply memorize large amounts of theological vocabulary. I spent so much time looking up words during the test that I couldn’t get through enough of it to pass.
This month I begin an Oktoberfest of the mind. I’ve downloaded 2154 vocabulary cards into the flashcard app on my iPad, and I will memorize them by January. Ja wohl! I hope to spend a little time each day studying them. So, if you see me, ask, “did you do your vocab today?”
