September 2026

Hi reader,

This month I would like to offer you some free resources to help you stay grounded and travel well during this new academic and ministry season.

First, let's look backward and celebrate the 8-week journey of art and scripture. Each Thursday in July and August I livestreamed for one hour to slow down, read scripture, and create a piece of art. I learned so much about scripture, art techniques, and my spirituality through this practice. I hope you find it helpful as well.

Second, you may want to reboot your study of the Bible this year. I made a video that offers a simple overview of how the Bible is organized like a bookshelf. It is free on YouTube. This is the first episode of a series that will supplement Meet the Bible.

Third, this is a good time to remind you of a free weekly resource that I send out every Monday. It is called the Visual Lectionary (visuallectionary.com). Each week I compile all the illustrations that I have created that go along with both the Revised Common Lectionary and the Narrative Lectionary for the upcoming Sunday. I also write a Food for Thought commentary for each collection. If you subscribe to the Visual Lectionary list you will receive the post in your inbox every Monday morning.

And...if you would like to discuss these texts in real time, I host a weekly text study on Zoom at the Art Pastor's Network every Monday at 4:00pm CT. Click here to join.
Sharing this journey with you,
Steve Thomason

A Sketchbook for the Final Year on Luther Seminary's St. Paul Campus

I have a goal to sketch my way across the campus of Luther Seminary during the 2026-27 academic year. This is my way to honor the fact that this is our final year on the Como Avenue campus.

I hope you enjoy the journey.
