Thanks so much for taking the time to read this monthly newsletter. I hope it provides you with helpful resources for your journey and helps us stay connected at some level. I'd love to hear what God is doing in, through, and around you on your journey.

I've got two main things for you this month:
|
|
First, please pray for me as I am in Guatemala from Jan. 29 - Feb. 11. The first week of my trip will be spent in Antigua. I'll be studying Spanish at La Unión Spanish School and staying with a family. It is a full immersion program. I'll study for four hours each morning and then I hope to spend my afternoons doing plen air painting around this beautiful city. Stay tuned for the art gallery in March!

Then, during the second week, I will be working with Pastora Karen Castillo, the bishop of the Lutheran Church in Guatemala (ILAG) to teach three different groups of pastors as they come to the Lutheran Center in Guatemala City for annual training. Check the blog for real-time updates.

Second, the Lenten Journey begins this year on Ash Wednesday, February 22. I've posted an introduction to Lent below that I hope you will find helpful.
|
You may not be aware that I create a weekly post that offers visual resources for both the Revised Common Lectionary and the Narrative Lectionary. You may want to subscribe to the daily posts if you want to receive these. I also host a livestream Text Study every Monday at 4pm CT for members of the Cartoonist Bible Network. Lent might be a good time to give it a try.

What is Lent? This PowerPoint introduces the student to the idea that Lent is like a journey of spiritual spring cleaning. We walk for 40 days, practicing the disciplines of fasting, prayer, and service to prepare our hearts for Easter.

This post offers visual resources for the texts in the Revised Common Lectionary and the Narrative Lectionary for Sunday, January 29, 2022. This week the RCL takes us to the Beatitudes in Matthew 5 and 1 Corinthians 1:18-31. Both texts proclaim the foolishness of the Good News that Jesus offers the world. The Narrative Lectionary takes us to the Lord's Prayer in Matthew 6, where we have the foolish notion that the creator of the universe actually cares about us and wants to listen.

This week the Revised Common Lectionary takes us to Matthew 4 when Jesus begins his public ministry based in Capernaum. The Narrative Lectionary went there last week and this week takes us to Matthew 5:1-20 to begin a short series in the Sermon on the Mount.
