January 2025

Hi reader,

Happy New Year!

How do you begin a new year? I ask God to show me a word that will be a theme to guide me through the year. The word this year is TRUST. I'd love to hear if you have a word, a phrase, or some form of focus for 2025.

There are a lot of changes happening this year: in my life, my work, and in our country. I'm pretty sure the same is true for you in at least one of these areas. It is easy to be distracted by worry and fret over things we cannot control. Instead, it is my prayer that God will give me the wisdom--the art--of being able to trust that God is faithful to God's promises to love us and go with us through all circumstances.

I've got three gifts for you below. One looks forward, one looks backward, and the third offers an inspiration for a way that you might journey with God in your own daily devotions this year.

Sharing this journey with you,
Steve

Explore the Gospel of Luke

Explore the Gospel of Luke

2025 is the year of the Gospel of Luke in both the Revised Common Lectionary and the Narrative Lectionary. I would like to honor this rare alignment of the lectionaries by offering a course on the Gospel of Luke. Stay tuned during the season of Epiphany (January – February) 2025 for a series of videos that walk through Luke using A Cartoonist’s Guide to Luke.

You can watch the videos on YouTube for free. If you would like to take this as a course, in community with others, then check it out at The Art Pastor’s Network.

300 Daily Devo Doodles

Create a drawing with a fountain pen in a real paper journal that captured my theological interpretation of the devotional. Snap a picture of the page and catalog it in my Logos Bible Software so that I have the …
