June 2024

Hi reader,

I invite you on a grand adventure with me this summer. Our first stop is an exploration of the Art of Prayer.
  • What is Prayer?
  • How Did Jesus teach us to Pray?
  • How can we use Paul’s Prayers to pray for our people?
We will experience prayer together in multiple ways throughout the month of June. Here are some ways that you can engage:
  • Try to have a conversation with God every day this month. Let me know how it goes.
  • Read the Art Pastor's Guide to the Lord's Prayer.
  • Tune in for my Livestream every Thursday morning (or watch the recording in your own time).
  • Make sure you are subscribed to Daily Posts so you don't miss anything (manage your subscription here).
  • Share prayer requests and pray in community at The Art Pastor's Network.
Sharing this journey with you,
Steve

Join me at Camp House

between June 29-July 5

Would you like to spend some time with me in the woods practicing contemplative sketching and learning to draw in plen air? I will be the Artist in Residence at Camp House from June 29-July 5. You can stay for one night, or for the whole week.

It's going to be a wonderful time to slow down and recharge with God.

On Becoming the Art Pastor

The Art Pastor explore spirituality and scripture with me through art and creativity
You may have noticed some changes around the website. I have been working with a group called TidyCo Creative to help me be more intentional with my online ministry and learn some new ways to connect with people.

They have taught me so much, and I have so much to learn. One of the big changes that they encouraged me to make was to bring all my online work together under one moniker: The Art Pastor. Now you can type in artpastor.com and it will bring you to my stevethomason.net site. I have also made the connections between stevethomason.net and cartoonistbible.com more interwoven.

I would love for you to explore the site with fresh eyes and let me know what you think.

My purposes have not changed. I believe that God has invited me to use the gift of the fusion of Art and Theology in my spirit to help people grow deeper in the love of God, through Jesus Christ, in the power of the Holy Spirit, for the sake of the world.

I hope that you will join me to explore Spirituality and Scripture through Art and Creativity.

I'm having so much fun.

Some Posts from May that you might have missed...

What is the Meaning of Art?

What is the Meaning of Art?

In this post I want to explore the meaning of the word ART.
"Why?" you might ask.
I have two reasons:
First, I am beginning a series this summer that is prefaced with the phrase "The Art of..."
- In June I want to explore the Art of Prayer.
- In July, the Art of Ordinary Time.
- In August, the Art of Discipleship.
It seems important to define what I mean by The Art of something if I'm going to use it so often.
Second, I am an artist, and I have shifted my online moniker to The Art Pastor. Quite honestly, the pursuit of the meaning of the term "art" speaks to a core piece of my own sense of identity. What does it mean to be an artist? What does it mean to be an Art Pastor?
The Trinity Animated

The Trinity Animated

This short animation allows you to contemplate the Trinity. The Bible speaks of God the creator. Jesus called God "Abba" which means Father, or Daddy. It is a term of endearment between child and parent. The Holy Spirit is the power of life and love throughout scripture. The Hebrew word is ruach.
How Can We Talk to God?

How Can We Talk to God?

We begin our journey into the ART of Prayer this week by looking at the opening lines of the Lord's Prayer. How can we talk to God?

The End of Theological Education by Ted Smith | A Visual Book Review

Ted Smith plays with the phrase "The End of Theological Education." Is theological education ending? Or, what is the purpose of theological education. Allow me to visually walk you through this book.
