The Bible Project has inspired me through their videos and podcasts about the Wisdom Books. They talk about the books of Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and Job as if they were people, or characters in a play. I am going to use that metaphor in my sermon this weekend. I took the liberty to draw my version […]
An illustrator tries to take an idea and put it into an image. I have been a freelance illustrator since 1990, sometimes on the side, sometimes as my full-time gig. I currently use this skill to illustrate my own sermons, lectures, and theological constructs. Enjoy!
Here’s another piggification for one of my favorite clients The Piggery.
I have not done much illustration work during the past three years since I’ve been working on the PhD. However, there is one client that I can’t refuse. There is an excellent restaurant in Chicago called The Piggery that specializes in Barbecue. If you ever go to Chicago, go there! Anyway, they hire me, periodically, to draw […]
For some reason I haven’t done any actual oil painting since we moved to Minnesota. I took one day during my vacation and did a quick oil of the Double Arch in Arches National Park. I based this on a photograph we took several years ago. This is done on a 16×20 canvas with oil […]
A Friday Sketch. Done in Procreate on the iPad.
This is an illustration I did for Catechism last night. It was Part Two of a three-week series on the life of Jesus. I love the fact that I can be in the office at church, take out my iPad, open up ProCreate, do the illustration, upload it to Dropbox, then insert it into PowerPoint […]
I am cleaning out my studio today and I came across this photo of an oil painting I did back in the 90s. These people were stunt performers who were putting together a new show and wanted this painting. I had totally forgotten about it.
This was a one-day collaborative effort between me and Jonathan Orwig. The image was inspired by Isaiah 55:1-13, Advent 3, and the upcoming sermon. Last week, in Advent 2, we saw the valley of dry bones in Ezekiel 37. This week we reach the climax of the Gospel in Isaiah 55 as God calls the […]
This illustration was done in ProCreate on my iPad.
I’m going to call this drawing finished. This was done on my iPad in ProCreate using the new Wacom Intuous Creative Stylus. It’s very liberating to be able to do this kind of work on my iPad, anywhere! Enjoy!
