why pray

The tough question we will deal with in this week’s sermon is: Does prayer really make a difference? If we are honest, then we know that sometimes we pray for people to get well, and they die. Other times they are healed. Sometimes we get the thing we pray for, and sometimes we don’t.

Look at this drawing and notice the two extreme views. Some people think that we can get what we want from God, if only we have enough faith. Others think that life is either determined by God’s perfect will, or life is simply subject to random chance, so stuff happens.

What do you think? Does prayer make a difference? Do you have stories about how prayer has made a difference in your experience? Please share.
